MR is one of the safest, most comfortable imaging techniques available. It uses a powerful magnet, an advanced computer system, and radio waves to produce detailed images (pictures) of internal organs, muscles, tissues, and blood vessels to diagnose medical conditions.
General Preparations
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing. You may be given a gown to wear during your study.
- Metal objects including jewelry, eyeglasses, dentures, and hairpins may affect your study and should be left at home whenever possible. You may be asked to remove hearing aids and any removable dental work.
- If you are over 60 years of age and IV contrast is indicated, a blood test may be needed prior to your MR exam.
- Please inform your physician and the technologist of prior surgeries, metal implants, pacemaker, or aneurysm clips.
- Please inform your physician if you are claustrophobic or unable to lie down for an extended amount of time due to pain so that appropriate pre-medication can be ordered.
- Women who are nursing or may possibly be pregnant should notify the technologist immediately.
- If you have the following risk factors, please contact Inland Imaging for special prep instructions: Renal disease, Over age 60, history of High Blood pressure, Diabetes or liver disease
After The Exam
Before you leave, your results are reviewed in order to ensure that adequate images were captured. The radiologist will then interpret the images and send a dictated report to your doctor.
